About Me
Hi! My name is Sarah O’Brien, or Sincere Duckling, and I am an aspiring artist rediscovering her love for art after a 5 year hiatus of creating. I have acquired a bachelors of fine arts degree through Southern University of Illinois Edwardsville in 2017, specializing in Metalsmithing. Since then I’ve worked with a local metalsmith in Saint Louis for a few years and then moved to Philadelphia. Due to having no access to a studio outfitted for metalsmithing I have picked up 2D mediums again. I realized after moving back home with my parents that I missed making art and felt like I used the ‘I have no studio space’ excuse to avoid it. There were other factors as well that assisted my artist block; one medium only (not sure where I got that idea from), lack of context, reality kicking post graduate me in the face. My artist statement goes into more detail here. I decided that 2022 was my year and I made a lot of creative progress and found my style which lead to a very productive spring of 2023. NightTimes and SkyTimes were all created in 2023.
Outside of my full time job, I love playing video games, hiking, and yelling about how much I love birds. Which leads to a question I’ve heard multiple times, “Where does Sincere Duckling come from? Why this name?” I have a semi-lame reason, we can thank my Xbox from 2012. The first generic name it generated was Sincere Duckling and a beam of light shone upon my teenage red head, anointing me the Sincerest of Ducks.
